Fabric selection is the key! Using 100% acrylic results in long lasting durability without fading.

Choosing the right foam for your project is important too. Various foam density as well as composition for your application will insure a lasting cushion without deteriorating

There are different types of foam for different projects, according to your comfort and function

The above photo shows an indoor foam, high resiliency 70 commercial foam. The lower foam is a dry foam made especially for outdoors and is porous to allow water to pass through.

The above shows an older foam that has been recovered. It is no longer as resilient as a newer piece of foam. The customer and I agreed it was still useable but it won't be as comfortable as a new piece of foam.

This first photo speaks for itself! What an eyesore! Not to speak of the rips and hard, unwelcoming foam.

This patterning was a puzzle fitting into the sleeping space of a ski boat, called a "cuddy." I had all the cushions but did not know, (until I found the pattern) which way the zippers needed to lay. I wanted the cushions to fit into the space tightly so they would be comfortable when laying inside. The new fabric which is a grey tweed upholstery, Sunbrella® ,is UV protected, water resistant, washable, and has a 3 year warranty. I have found that most Sunbrella fabrics last long past the 3 years and are very durable.

This was a challenge and it worked out swimmingly!

  After!

These rocking chair cushions below are made from a polyester fiber.

They have indoor foam and batting for an indoor space. They are not UV rated and sewn with nylon thread.

They are removable as sewn with zippers for dry-cleaning. A nice piping or welt surrounds the cushions.

Cushions made for a camper

Shown below are different cushions and various sizes for a camper. The original cushions were never damaged by the elements but outdated in colors and fabric type. Now, newly recovered with this beautiful Heritage line by, Sunbrella® fabric. This service is also for newly made cushions with foam and batting for the patio, sunroom or indoors.

With new foam or older foam still in good shape, recovering is possible. These cushions below came from a beautiful leather sofa damaged by dog claws. We love our puppies but we also love our sofa! Suggestions for complementary fabrics are made,(in this case the customer wanted a cotton blend.) Samples can be sent and work done. No need to throw away good furniture!

The new Acrylic fibers in Sunbrella® fabrics offer ease of cleanability, strength in wear and UV properties that prevent sun fading in hot climates. The upholstery fabrics shown below are examples of Sunbrella® upholstery fabrics used to cover indoor and outdoor seating. When fabricated, special thought is considered on what type of foam, battings and zippers are used to make the cleaning and wearability best for the situation. These fabrics are guaranteed for 5 yrs. for UV protection and general use.

A pop of Color in your outdoor/indoor setting often adds just what is needed in the yard, home or on the porch. Sunbrella® offers thousands of fabrics and updates their selections each year.

When choosing fabrics for boats or sunshades, certain types of fabrics work the best. I can show you many choices for whatever weather the cushions, paddings or shades will encounter. Shade clothes for outdoors comes in many styles, patterns for UV protection and filtering properties.

Dog beds or cushions are nice to make with a tight woven heavy acrylic Sunbrella® fabric. They can be made with zippers as the fabrics can be washed with a soft brush, warm water, laundry soap and a little bleach. The colors are fade resistant so the bleach won't hurt Sunbrella® fabrics. The foam for outdoors is usually a dry foam which allows water to flow through, unlike an indoor foam. Most outdoor cushions that come from your large home improvement store come with indoor foam unless the cushions are on new furniture being sold. Also, replacement cushions in those stores use polyester fabrics which will fade in one season.

This set of covers were made reversible, with a welt cord surrounding the cover. It takes more time to make and sew welt cording. It can always be complimentary as it was in the
checkered chair above. These covers were shipped to Washington State and the customer herself purchased foam and assembled the cushions with batting I shipped.
